How to Prevent Termites While Building a New House?

Building a new house of their own is a dream of many families across the United States of America. But construction is something that takes a lot of time. During this time, if the right measures aren’t taken, big problems can arise.

You see, most of the houses in the USA involve a lot of wood in construction. And there is a pest out there, who can jump to the opportunity of eating this wood. We are talking about termites. No one wants to call pest control to get rid of termites, as soon as their house is finished.

Its even worse when termites infest your house during construction. This is a problem faced by many people and construction agencies. But where there is a problem, there is also a solution.

That is why you came here didn’t you? well, we won’t disappoint you.  Plus, if you have any other pest-related problem you can call Control My Pest and we will get it done. Our customer helpline is open for you 24/7.

This being said, lets get into it:

Fours Ways to Avoid Termite During Construction

In this blog, we shall be discussing the three different methods that you can use to avoid termite infestation during the construction of your new house. however, one must understand that these are not the DIY solution.

Thus, it is not recommended that you do it yourself. This blog serves more of an informative role than instructive. Reason being that most of the time, the construction crew already knows what is to be done.

Whatever, the case lets move on, and see what these three methods are:

Soil-applied liquid termiticides

The first method on our list is the soil termiticide treatment. One thing that you must remember is that these methods don’t help you get rid of termites but avoid the same. Even though the name itself tells what it means, but let us elaborate on it for you.

Liquid termiticide is a chemical that is applied directly to the soil. It is laid in such a way that it forms an unbroken barrier cover both sides of the Foundation.

Plus, if the house being constructed has a crawl space, soil surrounding the piers as well as the flooring system support is also treated with the same termiticide.

The main goal of this soil-applied barrier is to stop the marching termites from reaching the foundation as well as the piers of the house. In general, it protects the wood used in the hose from coming in contact with termites.

However, it should be kept in mind that the soil which is in direct contact with the foundation of the house is treated. But there is an exception.

If the house is a slab construction, the whole soil, as well as gravel surface, is to be treated with termiticide. After this, another layer of the Vapor barrier is also put in place with the slab. Since this is quite heavy work, it is not recommended that you do it on your own.

Furthermore, soil-applied liquid termiticide treatment is not done in one go. this is to say that it isn’t a one-time application and requires during different stages of construction. This includes the foundation building as well as the soil’s final grading.

Therefore, if you want the treatment to be secure and hold its place, it is recommended to apply it again after the final grading is done. For the same reason, people prefer landscaping to be done first, as to not interfere with the treated soil.

Termite baits

The previous methods were a barrier. Now, we are going to look at some termite treatments using baits.

You see, baiting is quite an important part of the process of termite prevention and extermination. This is the reason, most of the pre, as well as post-construction termite control programs, include the same.

In the case of house construction, you use a termite baiting system when the termiticide one isn’t applicable for whatever reason. However, this doesn’t mean that both cants be used at the same time. Both baits and liquid treatments are used at the same time for better efficiency.

Moving on, during the construction of the house, the termite bait isn’t applied till after the final grading of the site is done. The reason behind this is that if it is done before the final grading there are chances that baiting stations are accidentally damaged or even covered under the soil.

Moreover, these baiting stations are quite inexpensive and easy to use. You can even find them in any local store or supermarket and place them yourself. Unlike the former method, this doesn’t require professional workers to do the job.

Wood treatment

Wood treatment is one of the most effective as well as long-lasting solutions of the bunch. Well, one can also consider it as an alternative to termiticide treatment.

As the name suggests, and most of you might have already assumed, this treatment is directly applied to the wood being used for the construction of the house.

If the situation permits, you can also buy wood that is already treated. And you can apply the treatment after you have bought it.

Moreover, it is found that termites neither feed nor do they infest treated wood in any conditions.

This treatment is applied before the siding and sheetrock are put in place.  But there is always some risk. For instance, the termites can enter the slab construction through the gaps and infest the untreated wood.

Conclusion

These are termite treatments to be used pre-or during the construction of the house. However, they do not provide the surety of protection from termites. And when this happens, do you know what to do?
