How to remove moths from Home

Do you want to get rid of moths? Well, you arent the only one. We as a pest control company have been getting many calls for moth removal. Needless to say, we have helped them all. And if you want our help, we are all here for you.

Moving on, in this blog we shall be discussing several DIY methods to deal with moths. With this being said, lets get into it:

DIY Methods to Control Moths

1.      Cedar

What if you could get rid of moths with just cedar? Well, you can.

It is a well-known fact that moths dont particularly like cedar. Why? Because it contains Pheromones, which moths can’t stand.

How? Well, there are a few ways.

Firstly, you can use cedar oil. Mix it with some water, and spray it all around the house to get rid of moths. Plus, you can also use powered cedar to repel these pests.

The best part is that its quite sustainable, and does not include chemicals in any way. So, there is no harming nature.

2.      Herbs

Herbs have been arch-rivals of pests for a long time. Thus, you can use the same to fight these creatures called moths. There are a number of herbs that work against moths. To get the best possible results, you can even combine them together. Just mix lavender, bay leaves, cloves, rosemary, and then put them in a bag. And place it near the affected area. This should do the job.

Just the smell of these herbs will force moths to leave. If this doesnt work for you, consider diluting essential oils and mixing them with water. Then you can either put it in a spray bottle or a diffuser.

Here, you can use one of the essential oils or a mixture of a few. Both of these will work well. And it is as simple as that.

3.      Sticky trap

We can all agree that traps are the best, and most stress-free way to deal with pests. This is especially relevant when you want to get rid of moths.

The reason being that, you dont have to do anything. Just get this trap. You can buy it from your nearby store or a supermarket. These are quite cheap, so you can buy a few of these at the same time.

When you have your hands on these, just put them around your house. In some cases, they already have moth pheromones added to them. However, if it doesnt, you can add a few. This attracts even more moths to the trap, and hence more effectiveness.

Leave it there for a while and then throw it away.

4.      Vacuum

It might come as a surprise, but you can carry out a moth removal with your vacuum. Yes, you read that right. If you have been following our blog for some time, you know that vacuum cleaner comes quite handy.

Now, there are two different ways you can use it. Firstly, you can use a vacuum cleaner to remove all the dust and dirt from around your house. Do you do it every day? Good.

Because doing this greatly discourages moths from infesting your house. Accompany it with dusting and clean clothes, you are good to go. This one is more of a preventive measure then cover-measure

However, if the situation has already slipped out of your hands, you can use the vacuum on moths directly. This will remove all the eggs of the moths, that they have left around your house. In addition to eggs, it also works on larvae.

5.      Freeze clothes

Like many other pests, eggs and larvae of moths cant survive in extreme temperatures. In simpler words, if its too cold or too hot, they die. Now, we can use this fact to over advantage.

All you need to do is take the affected clothes and gather them. Now, you put them in a plastic bag. The reason being that the plastic bag wont allow larvae to move around and into other infest-able things.

When this is done, put them in the freezer for 24 hours. You can increase the duration if you want to, but 24 hours get the work done. Take them out, and all the larvae are dead.

Keep in mind to wash the clothes before using them again. You dont want to wear something with dead bodies of larvae on them.

6.      Wash clothes

This method works on the same principle we discussed in the one above. But here we are talking about another end of the spectrum. It means that the clothes which can be washed, we wash them. With hot water. And the ones that can’t be, we use the former methods.

Coming back, using hot water to wash clothes will get you rid of all the larvae and eggs in your clothes. In addition to this, it is also quicker and more reliable than freezing them.

7.      Vinegar

Most of us already know that Vinegar is a great way to deal with pests. Consequently, it can also be used to deal with moths, their eggs, and larvae.

All you need to do is, take some vinegar and mix it with water. After creating this solution you can spray it to the area which is infested by the moth larvae, or the places where their eggs can be. After applying, scrubbing will finalize the work.
